If you have guests who cannot make the White Coat Ceremony, encourage them to watch the live stream of the event on this page beginning Friday, September 9 at 4 p.m. Click here to watch the event live.
Each student may bring up to four (4) guests to this special event. All students and attendees will be required to wear face masks at this event. Students will be able to remove their face masks when they ascend the stage to be cloaked in their white coats. Full COVID vaccination is strongly recommended for everyone attending the White Coat Ceremony.
Students must arrive at Pfleeger Concert Hall by 2:30 p.m. Doors will open for event guests at 3:30 p.m. -- one half hour before the start of the ceremony.
Students, staff and White Coat Ceremony guests may park in Lot C or Lot D. It is a moderate walk from these lots to Pfleeger Concert Hall/Wilson Hall. For guests who need special assistance, Rowan Public Safety will use golf carts to shuttle guests.
The White Coat Ceremony typically runs 90-120 minutes. A reception with light refreshments on the Wilson Patio will immediately follow the White Coat Ceremony.

Important Information for Students
• Arrival Time:
Students, Advisory College Directors, and other CMSRU personnel participating in the event should arrive at Pfleeger Concert Hall by 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, students should check in with Event Staff. Students will be lined up alphabetically within their Advisory Colleges for this event.• Rehearsal:
Rehearsal begins PROMPTLY at 2:45 p.m. This is a complicated event with many moving parts, so it is imperative that all who are participating in the White Coat Ceremony arrive on time.• Transportation:

Students should wear professional attire to the White Coat Ceremony. Suit jackets should NOT be worn.
About the Speaker
Emily Damuth, MD, is an assistant professor of medicine and emergency medicine at CMSRU, splitting clinical time between Cooper University Health Care's emergency department and multidisciplinary intensive care unit. She is passionate about medical education and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows, and serves as assistant program director for the critical care medicine fellowship at Cooper and an advisory college director at CMSRU.
Dr. Damuth grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. She majored in molecular biology at Colgate University where she also played Division I college basketball. As co-captain of the women's basketball team, she helped lead Colgate to a conference championship and its first-ever qualification for the Division I NCAA basketball tournament. She was awarded the Eastern College Athletic Conference Merit Medal for the top female scholar athlete.
A graduate of University of Michigan Medical School, Dr. Damuth is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. She trained in emergency medicine at Duke University Medical Center and completed a critical care medicine fellowship at Cooper University Health Care in 2013.
Dr. Damuth has received numerous honors for her commitment to medical education and patient care, including the W. Eric Scott Award for Excellence in Multidisciplinary Critical Care (2019), Golden Apple Teaching Award for Critical Care (2019), the Diane Barton Caring Award (2020) and the Critical Care Teaching Faculty of the Year awarded by the fellows (2022). In 2021, Dr. Damuth served as keynote speaker at the CMSRU Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony and was inducted as a faculty member in 2022.
About the White Coat Ceremony 
Each year, Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) officially welcomes its first year students into the medical profession at its annual White Coat Ceremony.
During this special day, the medical students are "cloaked" in their first white coats by faculty mentors in the presence of family members, friends and medical school deans and faculty. The poignant donning of the white coat is a symbolic event that marks students' official entry into the medical profession, and demonstrates their commitment and dedication as they embark on their lifelong journeys. In addition, the White Coat Ceremony is the first time new students recite the Hippocratic Oath.
White Coat Notes
A tradition at CMSRU is the White Coat Notes initiative, which provides an opportunity to give new students hand-written messages of encouragement and congratulations while supporting the Student Activities Fund.
Notes are placed in the pockets of students' jackets before they are cloaked during the ceremony. Loved ones, fellow students, past and future mentors and colleagues, and friends are encouraged to participate in this meaningful program. If you wish to make a gift online please CLICK HERE
